Celebrated world food Safety day 2020 -"Practice food safety, Reduce food waste, Ensure food security"
Honiara warehouse celebrated World Food Safety Day. June 7, 2020,
is World Food Safety Day, an initiative led by the World Health Organization
(WHO) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture (FAO) to promote global
food safety awareness with the theme "Food safety, everyone's
business".
The following message was displayed and explained to farmers.
Food safety is the most important attributes of food. Food safety
refers to safe food that is handled, prepared and stored to reduce the risk of
foodborne illnesses and is safe and suitable for consumption. Food security, on
the other hand, means that food is available at all times, that all persons
have access to it, that it is nutritionally adequate in terms of quantity,
safety, quality and variety. To ensure food security, it is essential to
practice food safety. Target 2.1 "Universal Access To Safe and Nutritious
Food" of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 cannot be
achieved without ensuring food safety. Appropriate management of risks by
everyone along the supply chain can contribute to food safety, reduce food loss
and waste and improve food security. Food safety is a shared responsibility!
World Food Safety Day.
1 - Ensure it's safe - Government must ensure safe & nutritious
food for all.
2 - Grow it safe - Agriculture and food producers need to adopt
good practices.
3 - Keep it safe - Business operators must make sure food is safe.
4 - Eat it safe: All consumers have a right to safe, healthy &
nutritious food.
5 - Team up for safety – Food Safety is a shared responsibility.
